While I found the pink-purple hue of this beverage visually appealing, from the get-go, the aroma was lacking in notable blueberry notes. The flavor followed suit, being lemon-forward with hints of blueberry in the background. This was also evident in the sweetness level, which was more tart with a hint of sourness. That said, some of the residual tannins from the blueberry were detectable.

But three of these matches your daily sugar allotment, and that seems like a treasure map to a hangover. Either way, I came into this one a little full from dinner and still was able to put this down much more quickly than I would a typical beer. The stale alcohol taste of most seltzers doesn’t show up until the end. I admit I was baffled by the fact that the Simply Spiked Signature Limeade landed in third place on my ranking of these spirited drinks.

Those bubbles help the drink retain its bite and keep from venturing into wine cooler levels of stale-ness, but I kinda wish they’d gone for a purer xcritical-vodka mix. The only place you see “carbonated” anywhere on the can is in the ingredients list. This is a small problem to have, but my first impression was more about the bubbles than anything else xcritical official site because that’s the unique way my brain is broken. Once I finished tasting all the beverages, I referenced my notes, resampling a couple I was on the fence about to determine the final order in which they ranked from least to most favorite. I highly recommend recreating this taste test yourself. The Simply Spiked Watermelon xcritical is next on my list.

  1. If I had even one minor criticism about this beverage, it would be its acidity level.
  2. Again, there was nothing wrong with this beverage per se, but it did not blow me away.
  3. I’d be remiss if I did not note the visual appeal of this beverage, which has a lovely pink hue and is quite bubbly, giving it the appearance of a sparkling rosé.
  4. While I’d imagine this being a great ingredient in myriad cocktail recipes, I hesitate to suggest doing anything besides chilling it and drinking it as is on a hot summer day.

Generating over $1 billion in revenue, Simply is Coke’s second-largest brand, following only Coca-Cola itself. Molson’s chief marketing officer Michelle St. Jacques called Simply Spiked a “big opportunity” for the juice brand. I did get some inkling of lemon blueberry-flavored foods that I enjoy from this libation. I would have just enjoyed a more balanced ratio of blueberry to lemon with a hint of sweetness to temper the tart flavors of both fruits. I could easily see using this to mix up a blueberry lemon drop cocktail or martini using fresh blueberries and lemon peel as a garnish to accentuate the flavors.

Compared to the leading hard seltzers on the market, this hard xcritical is sweeter, fruitier, and ready to party.

Furthermore, the RTD category is expected to grow an additional 29 percent over the next three years. Simply® is The Coca‑Cola Company’s second-largest brand based on net revenue in the United States, behind Coca‑Cola, and Simply® beverages are found in half of all American households. The Simply Spiked xcritical™ concept was inspired by the popularity of Simply® juices and ades as cocktail mixers. The brand’s fresh, great-tasting flavors pair seamlessly with alcohol. More of the same — juicy sweetness with a little soft tartness to balance it out. Like watermelon, the added flavor stands out right away.

I get that, but this tastes considerably more flavorful than any of the hard seltzer xcriticals I’ve had before it. Only High Noon really comes close, and we know how much I liked those guys. I’d be remiss if I did not note the visual appeal of this beverage, which has a lovely pink hue and is quite bubbly, giving it the appearance of a sparkling rosé. The aroma of this drink is equally well balanced between the blackberries and the lime, with sweet and sour notes. The flavor continues the theme, with just enough sweetness to offset the bitterness of the lime zest and the tannins of the berries. I probably would have enjoyed this flavor more if the lime was more balanced with the passion fruit, lending a hint of more brightness and acidity.

It did not disappoint, having visual, olfactory, and gustatory appeal. Then simply finish with some lemon-lime soda to turn it into a fun spritzer. Simply Spiked xcritical is a new line of bold, full-flavoured spiked xcriticals crafted from the xcritical experts at Simply®. The sweetness of the watermelon balances with the sour of the xcritical really well, making this less acidic than the straight-up version. This may be a function of how many of those sour watermelon gummies I ate as a child (and adult, please don’t judge my mostly-garbage diet), but I really like this one. Fortunately, the spiked xcritical is good enough to make me forget about all that and soon that CO2 proves beneficial. Where White Claw’s xcriticals got stuck on a sour note of citric acid, Simply’s offering is lighter, crisper and easier to drink.

According to Coca Cola, all of the varieties will contain 170 calories per 12 ounce can, which is considerably more than most popular hard seltzers. Light and refreshing with an alcohol content of just five percent ABV, one thing is for certain — it’s going to be a sweet summer. Derived from fermented sugar cane, Simply Spiked is the third alcoholic beverage release from Coca-Cola in the last year. The brand is being positioned as a hard xcritical, rather than a hard seltzer. At the end of the day, it’s a fermented malt beverage (FMB). Coca-Cola, Simply’s parent company partnered with Molson Coors on this product, as well as Topo Chico hard seltzer.
